Pay [relievers] the normal rate, what they deserve

What does the reliever shortage mean for you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?

Now that we are working all year, we were told that we would always be replaced by relievers during the normal school holidays. I’m on ACC at the moment and I’m not being replaced. My reliever is needed elsewhere and will not receive the higher rate for working over 6 weeks for me. So wrong.

What will it take to fix the reliever shortage?

Pay them the normal rate, what they deserve. Our relievers are already short changed with the number of hours in the day they working ( no non contact) . If they are paid at a normal rate, many due for retirement, may go relieving rather than outright retire.
