Current ratios do not allow for quality education for the tamariki of today
What does the issue of staff to student ratios mean for you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?
Current ratios do not allow for quality education for the tamariki of today. The introduction of 2 year old’s, increasing the Kindergarten day to 7 hours, alongside the multitude of needs and abilities 21st century children have, means kaiako are stretched to provide tamariki with quality one on one or small group interactions they need and deserve.
What will it take to fix staff to student ratios?
Change the ratio to 1:5 for 2 year old’s and 1:8 for 3-5 year old’s is a start.
When we fix staff to student ratios, what impact will that change have on you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?
Immense change. Teachers won’t experience as much burnout. Environments will be safer, due to increased supervision. Tamariki will have better quality teachers and better quality education. Leading to better futures for all.
