What does the issue of pay mean for you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?

The pay scale does not match the growth of the economy. I have very little left over after I pay the mortgage, food, petrol etc and I have a bachelors degree. The pay does not match the hard work and demands of the job leaving me burnt out and with very little money. I am so passionate about early childhood and teaching our young tamariki but this does not feel right.

When we fix pay for kindergarten teachers, what impact will that change have on you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?

I will be able to feel valued and happy as I’m not worrying about money and how to pay the bills and getting by week by week. This will help me see a bigger better future in early childhood where I can support my own family and come to work knowing there is a future in this career.
