What does the issue of staff to student ratios mean for you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?

Two year olds need alot more awhi for alot more needs – (nappies, emotional, self help, regulating kai, sleep/tiredness, transition period, attachments, working alongside older children, social issues, just to name a few). With the greater amount of two year olds we have they have a bigger impact on stretching staff time amongst them all. This also means other children miss out on quality staff time.

What will it take to fix staff to student ratios?

More Teacher Aides for the busiest parts of the day.

When we fix staff to student ratios, what impact will that change have on you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?

I will be less stressed, my emotional well being will be nurtured and not every inch drained. I will have more quality time for all children. I will not be constantly thinking about what the day ahead will bring. If my wellbeing is fed then all the children wellbeing is fed.
