There is division amongst kaiako when associations opt into this ‘all-year’ model.
What is the issue that is most important for you? What does your issue mean for you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?
Division amongst kaiako when associations opt into this ‘all-year’ model. Some kaiako who remain in sessional kindergarten models appear to have better working conditions – They seem to still have great non contact; annual leave without the added hassle of finding a reliever or finding a reliever because the one you had booked is not able to work; professional time without needing to find a reliever and or replace the one you get or cancel your professional time because there is no relievers; they not need to know that their annual leave is between anniversary day one year to the next…they just know they get 31 days.
What will it take to fix the issue you have identified?
Changes to the abilities of associations to make radical changes like this, and make kaiako who do the same job all have variations to their working conditions. Where is kindergarten gone, there appears to be no point of difference; we seem to be working longer; doing more; ratios are crap and more diverse mokopuna are fronting up to be educated and there is no support.
When we fix your issue, what impact will that change have on you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?
I will be able to do my job; have the needs of mokopuna at the forefront without worrying about the other crap stuff – Professional time cover, annual leave cover etc.
