What does professional time mean for you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?

Professional time is lacking with the amount of cleaning, and general care of our kindergarten. We get half an hour here and there. No time for quality planning and assessment. How are we supposed to meet the needs of our families and tamariki with this model? Being open during school holidays means no down time for team meetings or professional development. Meetings are short without resolution. The model changing is causing a significant negative impact on teaching teams and therefore affecting the quality outcomes for tamariki.

What will it take to fix the limitations on professional time?

Increase professional time and consider changing back to the old model or at least increase budgets to allow these teams the same as others.

When we fix professional time, what impact will that change have on you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?

Feeling like a professional teacher rather than a well paid cleaner. Invest in our well-being so we can meet our children’s needs.
