[Professional time] is the only time to think clearly and reflect
What does professional time mean for you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?
As a Head Teacher, professional time is administration, planning, moving the team forward and offering them professional guidance, improving learning outcomes for children and ensuring that the children have an excellent learning environment to learn in each day. But importantly it can be time to share, reflect and focus on the strategic direction of the Kindergarten with other head teachers. This is so valuable when it is time away from your work as it’s the only time to think clearly and reflect.
What will it take to fix the limitations on professional time?
Increase Head Teacher release days to three a term.
When we fix professional time, what impact will that change have on you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?
The Kindergarten will have a clearer and concise teaching programme because we won’t have to do it in our weekends.
