What does the reliever shortage mean for you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?

Reliever shortages means I do not always take leave if one of our core relievers are not available. As a full year kindergarten we rely on our experienced core relievers for continuity of teaching, learning and care of our tamariki who know each other well.

What will it take to fix the reliever shortage?

Removing the pay cap will encourage our experienced teachers to continue relieving.

When we fix the reliever shortage, what impact will that change have on you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?

Having our experienced relievers available means that teachers can take leave when they need it, knowing that the tamariki are getting the best possible teaching and care. For example in our kindergarten this means that 8 or more children under learning support have skilled teachers able to work alongside permanent teachers with their individual strategies.
