The reliever shortage has been the source of the most stressful time that I’ve had since I’ve been teaching.
What does the reliever shortage mean for you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?
The reliever shortage has been the source of the most stressful time that I’ve had since I’ve been teaching. Not knowing each day if we’d have enough staff to remain open. Children have had no consistency of relievers.
What will it take to fix the reliever shortage?
Reduce the number of centres that are being opened, more centres means already low numbers are spread further than they need to. Secure better conditions for relief staff.
When we fix the reliever shortage, what impact will that change have on you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?
Less stress on our team, not feeling like we’re letting the team down by having to be off sick. Not compromising the health and safety of ourselves, or our children by not being able to take leave if relievers are in short supply. Children benefit from healthier, happier teachers and a less stressed environment.
