What does professional time mean for you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?
As a head teacher my professional time is often outside my hours of work. In fact there is no such thing as a 40 hour working week. We hold our teams together by being leaders who care, we are child advocates, social workers for families in many cases, therapists, for all.. the list goes on. Guilt if you have to be away due to illness. all the while being loaded down with paper work needing to be completed.
What will it take to fix the limitations on professional time?
More paid hours allocated, relievers to cover.
When we fix professional time, what impact will that change have on you as a teacher, and the tamariki you teach?
Less stress, less burnout, greater job satisfaction.
